USTEM Competition Volume III (2023)

Expanding the Reach of STEM Excellence

The third edition of the USTEM Competition, sponsored by the Dele Akinsade Foundation in 2023, continued to foster innovation and scientific curiosity among secondary school students in Ondo State. With increased awareness and participation, the competition drew entries from a wider range of schools, reflecting the growing enthusiasm for STEM education in the region.

This year’s event challenged students to identify and solve practical problems affecting their communities, emphasizing creativity, teamwork, and the use of local resources. Teams presented a diverse array of projects, from energy-saving devices to water purification systems, all designed to address real-life needs. The competition provided a platform for students to demonstrate not only their technical skills but also their ability to communicate ideas and collaborate effectively.

The grand finale featured a science fair and project exhibition at the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo, where finalists showcased their innovations to a panel of judges and an audience of peers, teachers, and community leaders. Hallmark Secondary School, Ondo, emerged as the winner of the 2023 edition with their invention of a battery-powered electricity generator that recharges itself. The team received recognition and a grant to further develop their project and support STEM activities at their school.

Volume III of the USTEM Competition highlighted the sustained impact of the Dele Akinsade Foundation’s investment in youth and education. By supporting this annual event, the foundation continues to inspire students to pursue STEM careers and contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities.
